We are industry leaders in designing structures for the Food Industry including Hygiene Facilities and Processing Plants for export dairy, meat and other food production industries in New Zealand and overseas. We have designed processing facilities for multiple clients in the dairy, meat, fish and other food related industries including Fonterra, Silver Fern Farms, Open Country Dairy, ANZCO, AFFCO, Delegat Winery and many others. In these industries, attention to detail and time is critical. We understand this and have a proven record of delivering both.

ROGER BAKER
Roger serves as a Director at Stiles and Hooker, bringing a wealth of knowledge and 32 years’ experience to the firm. With a background in heavy civil and structural design, he specialises in commercial and industrial buildings as well as industrial plant structures. His expertise encompasses structural analysis, robust design, meticulous attention to detail, and the development of cost-effective, buildable solutions.
Roger’s solution-focused mindset and proactive approach enable him and his team at Stiles and Hooker to readily meet client requirements and ensure successful project delivery.

SCOTT LAWRENCE
Scott is a Chartered Structural Engineer with 21 years’ experience managing the design of institutional, recreation, commercial and industrial timber, steel and reinforced concrete buildings and the seismic design, evaluation and strengthening of existing buildings.
His design philosophy is to spend the required time in the early stages of a project so that client needs can be understood and options explored before committing to detailed design.

BRETT CONNING
Brett is a Structural Chartered Engineer with 20 years of experience in structural/civil and project management. His desire to understand client needs, passion for problem solving and attention to detail ensure he delivers quality work on time. He manages project teams, oversees timelines and budgets, and maintain clear communication with clients, ensuring that each project meets functional/technical/aesthetic requirements and overall goals.
Brett’s experience across residential, commercial and heavy industrial projects in New Zealand and Canada has provided a broad knowledge base that allows him to adapt to any project.

Principal Engineer
Iain Brown
After serving as a director at Stiles and Hooker Ltd for 29 years, Iain has chosen to step back from this role. To ensure a smooth and seamless transition, Iain will continue to provide support as a principal engineer, sharing his expertise and insights on a casual basis from April 2025.
Iain is a Civil/Structural Engineer with 40 years’ experience as a consultant, primarily in New Zealand but including 5 years working in the UK.
With experience across a range of commercial, institutional and industrial projects Iain’s focus is on food industry related projects and in assisting clients to integrate their plant and process into practical and functional site and building designs.

LANCE WALKER
Lance is a trained and an industry qualified technician and affiliated LBP with extensive experience in the commercial, industrial, residential and the educational sectors.
He is conversant with NZBC acceptable solutions in fire design and has a broad knowledge of local and central legislation, acts and policies. Lance enjoys delivering successful projects for our valued clients, stakeholders and end users.

Tony is an industry trained technician with 40 years experience.
Tony has a range of experience in disciplines; from primary industries, pharmaceuticals, industrial, commercial and civil. Tony has a strong practical background and enjoys interacting with both clients and builders to create and deliver practical solutions for a quality outcome.
