Ecogas Reporoa Organics Processing Facility is New Zealand’s first large-scale food waste-to-bioenergy facility in the central North Island.

Stiles and Hooker completed the civil, structural and architectural design aspects for this flagship facility that turns 75,000 tonnes of organic waste, from businesses and kerbside food scrap collections throughout the North Island, into sustainable, renewable energy products by using anaerobic digestion.

The brief included ground improvement piling, foundation slabs for large scale biogas processing – (anaerobic digester tanks and hydrolysis tanks), access roading, stormwater storage pond, feedstock reception and processing buildings, weigh bridge, amenities and office buildings, MCC & transformer area and biofilter foundations.

Materials utilised for this project were deep piled foundations to create a stabilised raft platform suitable for the tank farm, reinforced concrete foundations for buildings, tanks and equipment, light steel framing for buildings and concrete retaining walls for material bunkers.
