A new substation on a greenfields site. Situated in close proximity to a public road on approach to Raglan, a rural context and adjacent to land zoned residential.

Both the curved roof and wall to emulate the curved approach of the adjacent highway and to provide smooth visual movement rather than abrupt rectilinear forms.

Precast concrete structures for both the wall and roof is in response to the requirement to reduce noise from the transformers along with requirement for a substantial degree of fire rating and durability.

The aesthetic to the external finish, with the use of natural stones keyed into the precast concrete surface, provides a “natural” finish that integrates with the natural landscape.

The building form and finish demonstrates a contemporary approach in simplicity and solidity with the scale diminished by the use of mounded landscape and natural native species as vegetation and screening.
